Abstract


ABSTRACT Elderly at risk of dementia is caused by a decline in cognitive function. Dementia is also followed by the decline of mood. Intervention of crosswords and lavender scent are used to fix cognitive and mood.This study aim to explaineffect of crosswords and lavender scentagainst cognitive, mood, and ABI. Design of this research
was quasy experimental study. Population affordable which have fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria were 320 elderly people in the Kelurahan Karangtengah. Respondents were 22 elderly who selected through simple random sampling. The independent variables wascrosswords and lavender scent. The dependent variable were cognitive, mood, and Ankle Brachial Index. Data was collected by using MMSE (Mini Mental Status
Examination) and POMS (Profile of Moods States). The statistical analysis used were Independent T-Test, Wilcoxon-Signed Ranks Test, andMann-Whitney Test with a significance level of α ≤ 0.05. Statistical test results Wilcoxon-Signed Ranks Test for cognitive was (p = 0.005), mood (p = 0.003), and ABI (p = 0.006). Statistical test results
Mann-Whitney Testfor cognitive (p = 0.010),mood (p = 0.028), and ABI (0.001), so that the results showed that there were influence of crosswords and lavender scent against cognitive, mood, and ABI. It can be concluded that the effect of crosswords and lavender scent against cognitive, mood, and ABIare strong enough. Intervention activities
of Crosswords and lavender scent can be used as a new approach to prevent an increase of dementia into a regular program of elderly.
